Immensely Proud

Kia Ora Whanau

We set some hefty goals in Week 3 and I'm immensely proud of what the class has achieved.

Firstly all 6 of the students on the Lexia literacy programme achieved their weekly goal.  This has only happened on half a dozen occasions this year.

With regard Mathletics we set ourselves the target of making the Top 50 in the World, beating our record number of points of 87 803 and for everyone to achieve a certificate.

Well I'm very proud to announce that for the FIRST time this year every student in the class received a certificate, we are currently 29th in the World and it is extremely likely that we will remain in the top 50 and we are now only 786 class points behind our all time weekly record.  What an achievement!

I do however want to stress that we have had a bit of a 'push' on Mathletics this week and that while it is fun to beat classes from Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada, Guatemalo, Argentina and Peru (to name a few) the main and continued focus is not on achieving a vast amount of points (this week being an exception) but rather on forming regular and consistent work habits which lead to a sound knowledge and understanding of the maths curriculum.

Students are required to do 40 minutes of Mathletics outside the classroom each week.  Should they wish to do more they are welcome but that will be their own decision.

During the week we also read the poems we had written to Room 2, completed our art design and chose our Inquiry 'project' for the term.  We had some fun games of 'Capture the Flag' as well!

I feel very privileged to have such a wonderful class
