Thirsty work being a football star!

Hamish put in great effort for his club side, FC 2011, on Saturday

Week 9 Update

Kia ora Whanau

Please could you have your children at school by 8.50am on Monday so we can leave sharply at 9am for Ferrymead.

We had fun learning about the properties of a cornflour/water mixture and how it can change when it is rolled in a ball and when it is left alone.

On Thursday 5 July, Ilam School would like to invite all the parents and children of our Pasifika school community to the first Talanoa of the year.

As we have a number of new Pasifika families who have joined our school community, we thought it would be a great opportunity to meet each other in an informal setting. It is also an ideal time for the new families to meet some of the other Pasifika families if they haven’t already done so. We would like the Talanoa to give everyone a chance to talk about their child/children’s time at Ilam, what families would like to see discussed at future Talanoas and how we can help each other develop an environment where the children can achieve their best.

The Talanoa will be held in the School Staffroom (upstairs) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday 5 July, the last Thursday of Term 2. We will start with short introductions so we get to know a little about each other, refreshments will be provided, and then a relaxed discussion about how we can help each other. The Talanoa should be over by 7:00 p.m.

To help provide an idea how many are attending (and so we can cater appropriately), could you please complete this link Pasifika Talanoa Attendance Form byTuesday 3 July.

The Talanoa provides a great opportunity for the Pasifika families and the Ilam School staff to come together and talk about the children.

Teachers' Union meeting - Tuesday 26 June

Kia ora whanau

Please could you read this note regarding the upcoming NZEI meeting.

A reminder that the Board of Trustees have been advised by the teachers union, NZEI, that there will be a union meeting on Tuesday 26 June at 2:00pm. This is around the teachers pay claim but also around wider educational issues such as recruitment and retainment of teachers throughout New Zealand.  Meetings were held in March for teachers who were part of the union.  Due to multiple meetings being held over different days we were able to stagger teachers attendance at these and employ relievers for classes so there was minimal disruption to the running of the school.

In June there is only one meeting being planned for Christchurch so we will have to ask parents to collect their children at 12:30pm on this afternoon.
We will have a small number of staff still at school on this afternoon, to cater for those families who are unable to collect their children before 3:00pm; however the more parents who are able to collect their children on this day will enable us to manage the remaining children more effectively. We will keep you updated if there is any change to this situation.
