Week 10 update

Kia Ora Whanau

Week 10 highlights

  • We were treated to a violin recital from Frank and Alex.  The two boys enjoyed a lesson from a qualified music teacher (currently studying to be a teacher).
  • Thank you to everyone who contributed to the class taonga display.  There is a great pic of the display in an earlier post.  We were able to learn a little bit more about each other through this display.
  • We have been practising for the cross country
  • We had a trial lockdown on Thursday
  • We have enjoyed learning about the First World War during literacy.  Part of this unit we did some silhouette art.  Navia, Keelia and Natasha led the teaching of this art.  Other World War I activities have been to make poppies and also do a task where we had to decide what we would purchase with our war coupons.
  • Inquiry:  Other than our taonga, we are completing a digital mihi and also coat of arms.  These 3 activities are helping to identify us which is the cornerstone of the vision petal 'I Belong'.
Week 11
  • We will be making ANZAC biscuits on Wednesday morning
  • The school cross country takes place at 1pm on Wednesday.
  • We will complete our Inquiry activity and also our First World War activities.
Term Two
Our Inquiry for term 2 is to look at how landscapes are formed with a particular focus on volcanoes and earthquakes.  On Thursday 18 May we will be visiting Quake city and also the museum to learn about rock formations.

Another exciting initiative is 'Passion' Time.  A letter went home on Friday regarding this.

Have a great week and a very happy Easter.  Term two starts on Monday 1 May
